On Wednesday 2nd April Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store cattle. Unbelievable scenes in Borderways store cattle ring as all classes see a significant rise on the week especially the biggest, strongest cattle. The 578 cattle forward sold to average a whopping £2061.12 with lots more grass cattle on offer. The continentals and native bullocks averaged a huge £2247.19 with heifers to £1928. Dairy bred bullocks sold to average £1765.19 and heifers £1865. The three thousand pound bracket have been broken twice today, firstly for a 26 month old Charolais cross steer from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna selling to £3020. Messrs Watson, Howrigg, Wigton sold a 30 month old British Blue cross to £3000. Herefords to £2960 from Messrs Smith, Campingholm, Gretna and best Limousins to £2920 from Messrs Batey, High Knells, Carlisle.
Heifers peaked at £2700 for a 25 month old Limousin cross from Messrs Studholme, Ash View, Wigton with others to £2600 from Messrs Gillespie, High Stand, Carlisle and Aberdeen Angus crosses to £2560 from Messrs Smith, Campingholm.
Black and whites sold to £2400 for a Montbelairde steer from Messrs Fisher, Low Milton, Newton Stewart, the same vendors also sold the biggest priced Holstein Friesian to £2000 per head for best steers and heifers.
