Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening when 3,138 sheep were forward consisting of 2,862 prime hoggs and 276 Cast Sheep. 

Topping sale at £234 where a pen of fifteen 41kg hoggs which made 570.7p/kg from JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York.

This home also sold a pen of fourteen 44kg hoggs to make £231 (525p/kg) a pen of fourteen 39kg at £229 (587.2p/kg) a pen of fifteen 39kg at £222 (569.2p/kg) a pen of ten 42kg at £224 (533.3p/kg) and a pair of 53kg at £220, and a pen of eleven 40kg at £223 (557.5p/kg).

The consignment of 107 hoggs from Boscar Flats sold to average 42kg £222.91 (530.6p/kg).

Topping at 597.4p/kg where a pen of thirteen 39kg hoggs which made £233 Messrs Mason, East Farm, Malton. This home also sold a pen of ten 44kg at £227, a pen of fourteen 40kg at make £222 (555p/kg) and a pen of eleven 47kg at £221.

The consignment of 80 hoggs from East Farm sold to average 43kg £222.85 (517.5p/kg).

Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth sold two pens of nineteen and eleven 40kg hoggs to make £227 (567.5p/kg) with a pen of twenty one 38kg making £218 (573.7p/kg).

Messrs Fell, Stranger Hill, Wigton sold a pen of ten 43kg Dutch Texel cross hoggs to make £227.50 (529.1p/kg).

Messrs Powley, Low Northsceugh, Carlisle sold a pen of eight 43kg hoggs to make £225 (523.3p/kg).

Messrs Thompson, Stainby House Farm, sold a pen of three 48kg hoggs to make £225.

This home also sold a pen of twenty three 52kg hoggs to make £201, with another pen of fourteen 64kg making £201 and a pen of fourteen 52kg making £196 (376.9p/kg).

The consignment of 252 hoggs from Stainby House Farm sold to average 58kg £192.40 (328.3p/kg).

Mule hoggs sold to £164.50 for a pen of twelve 60kg from Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm.

Messrs Patchett, West Summersides, Ripon sold a pen of twenty 58kg Mules to make £160.

Mules also sold to 334.1p/kg for a pen of 44kg which made £147 from Messrs Todd, Victoria Cottages, Bishop Auckland.

Messrs Downie, Newton Farm, Aberdeenshire sold a pen of twenty two 45kg Hill Cheviot, hoggs to make £154.50, with another pen of nineteen 43kg Hill Cheviots making £150 348.8p/kg.

And a pen of thirty one 43kg Suffolk cross hoggs making £154 (358.1p/kg) from this home.

Messrs Turnbull, Boghall, Fife sold a pen of nineteen 52kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £166.50 (320p/kg).

Swaledale hoggs sold to 307.6p/kg for a pen of twenty five 46kg hoggs which made £141.50 from Messrs Graham, Dalbrack Farm, Brechin.

Once again Kirkby Stephen fat sheep ring bucked the national trend this week so far with an SQQ average of 377.21p/kg and an overall average of 332.3p/kg and £162.71 for 2862 hoggs which includes over 900 horned and mule hoggs.
