APRIL SALE TOPS AT £3400 TWICE

 Over 200 dairy cattle were forward for the April Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale consigned from many of the leading herds across Scotland and the North of England.  Trade topped at £3,400 on two occasions with 14 animals selling for or more than £3000 with the trade for Holstein heifers down on the month; Holstein heifers in milk averaged £2580.  
 

Agri-King sponsored the sale with the joint top price selling for £3400 consigned by the Thompson family from Kirton of Beath Farm in Fife.  This impressive heifer, Beath Chase Irene was the highest yielding heifers in the sale giving 48kgs, she was sired by Drounder Chase and bred from an Excellent 92 dam.  Three other heifers from this home sold to average £3100.

Alister & Sandra Hodge from West Scoutts Farm in Ayrshire sold an outstand group of heifers to average £3016 and topped sold Kyleview Dreambig Valerie for the top joint price of £3400.  Sired by Dreambig, this awesome uddered heifer was giving 40kgs and was bred from a Silver dam.  Kyleview Chief Constance for the same consignment sold for £3300.

Jack Cowan from Meikle Killantrae Farm sold an incredible uddered heifer for £3350.  She was sired by Wilder Dalliance.

The Hastwell family from The Buildings Farm near Kirby Stephen sold four super balanced heifers to average £3000 and topped at £3250 for Belahvalley Dalliance Snowdrop.  Her Dorcy dam gave over 14000kgs as a five year old and was classified EX90.

John Adamson from Swaites Farm near Lanark topped the Ayrshire trade with a classy heifer Swaites Bright Red who sold for £2900 she was sired by Red Rocks Bookmaked Red and was giving 33kgs. 

Richard Bell owner of the famous Nerewater British Friesian herd commenced his dispersal sale with a special group of quality cows topping at £2400 for Nerewater Aldsmudge 66 who was sired by Lakemead Marshall and was bred from an Excellent 92 dam with massive production figures.

There was a quality group of in-calf heifers form several farms and they topped at £2600 on three occasions to average £2272.  William Moffat from East Tarbrax Farm near Edinburgh First sold two powerful heifers due in May for £2600, both were daughters of AltaAmulet.  Robbie Scott from Shacklehill Farm in Ayrshire sold a fancy Red & White heifer due in May for £2600.

A youthful group of specialised grazing cows all due in May and June sold to a top of £2200 and averaged £1268.  These were mainly Irish cross bred cows that were calving outside the spring block calving time frame.
