HOLSTEINS SET A BORDERWAY RECORD
Warnelview & Errolston herds Top At 10,000gns
The 22nd Annual Spring Bull sale held on behalf of the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club had an outstanding selection of bulls on offer from the best cows and the best herds in the UK. Bulls topped at 10,000gns on two occasions to average £5188 per life with only 4 bulls selling for less than £4000. A packed ringside had buyers from across the UK in attendance with buyers recorded as far north as Aberdeen and south to Somerset.
The show was sponsored by Finance For Farms and judged professionally by John Jamieson from the much-respected Firth Holstein herd. He selected Warnelview Neville as his Overall Champion who was consigned by Kevin & Chrstine Wilson, this classy bull went on to sell for 9,000gns to Mr Howat from Ayrshire. Neville was sired by Bullseye and was a grandson son of the iconic Warnelview Final Cut Nita who has classified Excellent 97 on seven occasions and to date has produced over 170 ton of milk lifetime.
Winning Reserve Champion with a powerful British Friesian bull, Whinnow Charter was the Blamire family from near Thursby. Charter was sired by Catlane Chad, his dam was the winning Iron Grandma cow and Reserve Grand Champion at UK Dairy Expo in March. His third dam was the famous bull dam Blackisle Pauline who was classified Excellent 95 and produced over 100 ton of milk in her lifetime. Charter was purchased by the Adams family from Stranraer for 7,000gns
The first bull to sell for 10,000gns was Errolston Milestone who was consigned by the Davidson family from Gretna. Milestone was sired by Topstone, his dam is one of the up-and-coming stars within the herd; Errolston Presto Maui who recently classified Very Good 87 as a three-year-old. His grand dam is Errolston Miss Maui EX95 who produced over 120 ton lifetime, the foundation cow in this pedigree was Miss Mark Maui EX95 who was an incredible brood cow back in the 90’s and one of Walkway Chief Mark’s best daughters. This impressive bull was bought by Hardgrove Farms near Dumfries.
Warnelview Zachary was consigned by Kevin & Chrstine Wilson and sold for 10,000gns to James Fingland from Castle Douglas. His dam was a massive production cow giving almost 17,000kgs in her most recent lactation and is sired by Alta Cordial, his third dam Warnleview Bolivia Zwartina EX94 had tremendous butterfat and protein records producing over 5000kgs in her lifetime. Seven other bulls from the Warnleview herd sold to average £6420.
Selling for 7,200gns was Winton Marlay who was consigned by Peter Waring from North Yorkshire. He was by Outlay and was bred from the famous High Point Chief Mary cow family and was bought by the Paul family from Lockerbie.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Thursday 17th April and features 130 dairy cattle in Border & Lakeland Club sale. The dispersal of the Smallrigg Montbeliarde herd takes place on Wednesday 23rd April and features 220 cows and heifers in milk followed by all the youngstock.
