Borderway Prime and Cast Sheep Sale

PRIME SHEEP: On Monday 14th April 2025 H&H held their weekly sale of prime and cast sheep in Borderway Mart. As the reputation of this centre grows as one of the top sheep centres in the UK so do the numbers , with a record show of 5550 prime sheep penned with 1094 cast sheep also forward, as always the cast sheep kicked off the day, and they did so in some style, with a blistering  trade seen on all classes , the overall quality and weight would be down across the board on the week but every lowland breed secured top prices north of £200, to a top of £300 for both Texels and Beltex with Suffolks close behind at £292 ,  hill sheep sold  to £238  for Hill Cheviots, with horned ewes to £194 for Blackies and £178 for Swales. All classes are needed once more for next week,

5550 prime sheep forward on what was a predominantly heavy show of sheep, this reflected in an overall market average of 318p per kilo , export weight continentals remain the best to sell by far and regularly traded at 370-400p with the best topping at 538p for Beltex hoggs from Big Dave Moir, Home Farm, Cairness, Dave was pipped to the post for top gross by another border raider Messrs Barclay, Harestone, Insch who sold heavy Texel hoggs to £218 a head.
