Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly Sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday evening when 2,804 sheep were forward consisting of 2,467 prime hoggs and 337 Cast Sheep. 

Topping the sale at £231 was an 87kg Texel hogg from Messrs Scott, Hollins View Farm, Brough Sowerby.

Topping at 572.5p/kg where a pen of twenty 40kg Beltex cross hoggs which made £229 from JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York.

This home also sold a pen of ten 40kg hoggs to make £227 (567.5p/kg) a pen of seventeen 42kg at £226 (538.1p/kg) a pen of fourteen 41kg at £225.50 (550p/kg) a pen of eleven 44kg at £225, a pen of twenty two 40kg to make £223 (557.5p/kg) and a pen of twelve 42kg at £220 (523.8p/kg).

The consignment of 207 hoggs from Boscar Flats sold to average 42kg £212.73 (506.5p/kg).

Messrs Mason, East Farm, Malton sold a pen of seventeen 46kg hoggs to make £228, two pens of sixteen and twelve 46kg at £226,  and a pen of twenty 47kg at £224.

The consignment of 140 hoggs from this home sold to average 46.3kg £217.20.

Messrs Hill & Wright, Mill Farm, Doncaster sold a pen of twenty three 45kg hoggs to make £225, with another pen of ten 43kg making £221, and a pen of twenty five 45kg making £222.

Messrs Birkbeck, Castle Hill, Soulby sold a pen of nineteen 38kg hoggs to make £204 (536.8p/kg).

Messrs Skelton, Newhall Farm, Maryport sold a pen of sixteen 38kg to make £199 (523.7p/kg).

Messrs Fell, Stanger Hill, Wigton sold a pen of ten 42kg Dutch Texel cross hoggs to make £217.50.

Hill Cheviot hoggs sold to £158.50 for a pen of 46kg (344.6p/kg) from Messrs Clegg & Y Lewtas-Wood, Yew Tree Farm, Poulton le Fyle.

Messrs Kiernan, Vale Farm, Preston sold a pen of twenty 42kg Hill Cheviot hoggs to make £145 (345.2p/kg).

Messrs Fell, Stanger Hill sold a pen of sixteen 43kg Hill Cheviots to make £146.50 (340.7p/kg).

An SQQ average of 375.7p/kg and an overall average of 342.15kg and £158.68 was achieved.

15 pens and 230 hoggs sold between £220 - £231.

49 pens and 493 hoggs sold between £200 - £231.

18 pens and 258 hoggs sold between 500-572p/kg.

Messrs Askwith, Middle Mown Meadows, Crook sold Texel ewes to £300, with two pairs of Beltex ewes from this home making £288 and £270.

Texel cross ewes sold to £280 from Messrs Birkbeck, Decklyn, Soulby.

Mule ewes sold to £210 from Messrs Owen, Sandwath Farm, Kirkby Stephen.

Messrs Brass, Bridge End Farm, Soulby sold a pen of five mule ewes to make £208.

Swaledale ewes sold to £148 for a pen of three from Messrs Slack, Stoneriggs, Hilton.
