BLACK DIAMOND SPARKELS FOR GRAYRIDGE
Cows average £2835
The consignors at the April Border & Lakeland Show and sale provided buyers with an amazing selection of quality milkers, top end yearlings and high-quality embryos to invest in. Trade topped at 7,000gns with milking cows averaging £2845; yearling heifers topped at 3,600gns to average £2701.
The show was sponsored by Finance For Farms and was judged by Phil Potts from the Potts Holstein herd near Carlisle. The Champion went to Overside Grayridge Dynasty Diamond who was consigned by David & Callum Gray from East Kilbride near Glasgow. Diamond already had an amazing show career placing 2nd in the Milking Yearling class at UK Dairy Expo in March and has won several shows as a yearling in 2024. Her grand dam had sold for 20,000gns in the Knowlesemere Sale a few years ago to the Carinpat herd, her fourth dam was the All Britian winning Mature Cow in 2018, Knowlesemere Jordan Diamond EX96. This awesome uddered daughter of King-Ransom Dynasty sold for the top price of the day going to David Coulthurst from Preston for 7,000gns.

Standing Reserve Champion was Stowbeck Elevated Lillibet,consigned by Skirwith Hall Farms from near Penrith. She was sired by Elevated Red and bred from an impressive line of Excellent cows with massive lifetime production. Lillibet sold for 2,600gns to the Robinson family from Lanercost.
The Logan family from Holehouse Farm in Ayrshire sold eight high production heifers topping at 3,200gns for Holehouse Tropic Vicki she was purchased by the Somerville’s from near Dumfries.
One of the best consignments of the day was from the Gillespie family of High Ploughlands Farm who sold 4 heifers to average over £3000 and topped at 3,100gns for Ploughlands Improbable Dewlass.
The Drointon herd owned by Andrew & Debbie MacKellar from Staffordshire consigned a special group of show heifers with exceptional pedigrees to average £2700 and topped at 3,600gns for Drointon Grayridge Chief Glamorous. She was owned in partnership with David & Callum Gray from East Kilbride near Glasgow and was bred from a deep cow family with 21 Excellent dams. Her dam was an EX92 Altitude that sold for 6,000gns in 2020.
The sale concluded with thirty seven yearling and heifer calves bred from the Deerslet herd that topped at 1300gns for Deerslet MC Hailed Viola.
