PRIME BULLS: A marvellous show of 101 Prime bulls forward at the Borderway Bank Holiday sale whereby all classes were met with a flying trade throughout with a highlight of a new UK Primestock record with Messrs Priestley, Cracrop Farm, Brampton selling a Pure Limousin weighing 1017kgs to £4759.56 purchased by A & D Meats. Messrs Struthers, Collielaw, Lanarkshire sold a 35 month old Limousin to £3542.40. An Aberdeen Angus weighing 1016kgs sold to £3454.40 from Messrs Wilson, Newbanks, Moffat. A top price per kilo of 468p went to the aforementioned bull from Messrs Priestley. Next best went to Messrs Campbell, Strawfrank, Lanarkshire selling 678kg to 464ppk, Messrs Campbell sold a run of six averaging 700.83kg to 449.07ppk.
Dairy bred bulls sold to £2696.76 for a 784kg Friesian from Messrs Clark, Whins Farm, Lockerbie. Best Holstein Friesians also came from the Whins with 785kg to £2512 and Messrs Grainger, Kiln Close, Wigton sold best Montbelairde to £2415.60 for 671kgs. Top pence per kilo of 376p went to a 484kg Friesian from Messrs Preston, Wedholme House, Wigton and 537kgs to 374p from the same good home.

PRIME CATTLE – A much smaller entry of only 47 Prime steers and heifers forward at Borderway’s Bank Holiday sale. A fantastic show of cattle were forward with a real good quality offering to pick from. The steers just pipped the heifers at the post this week for overall pounds per head with Messrs Story, Jackson Riggs, Longtown selling 30 months old 786kg Limousin cross to £3521.28. Messrs Bell, Hoddomtown, Lockerbie sold next best steer to £3440.04 to Bowland Foods, Preston, Top pence per kilo steer was a Limousin cross weighing 674kgs from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton selling to 460 ppk to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Next best was one from Messrs Muir, Cleughbrae, Mouswald, Dumfries with 739kg selling to 454ppk to A & D Meats.
Heifers closely followed the steer best price with Messrs Richardson, Low Bank End Farm, Appleby selling their best at £3518.48 for an impeccable 721kg Limousin cross to Steven Wilson Butchers Shop, Corby Hill and Brampton. Messrs Richardson also sold 696kg to £3132 and Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith sold their first of the season to £3116.88 for 702kg purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Top pence per kilo overall went to the same animal that achieved top overall pounds per head from Messrs Richardson, which sold to 488ppk for 721kg.
