Borderway Prime Cattle Sale

PRIME BULLS: A smaller entry of 64 Prime bulls forward saw trade in line with the national trend for mid-end of last weeks trading.  All classes were a fraction easier if not the same trade.   Breaking the £4000 barrier this week was a Charolais bull weighing 943kg from Messrs Campbell, Thrunton Farm,  Alnwick receiving £4111.48.  Next best an Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Laird, Cambwell, Biggar, Lanarkshire weighing 969kg and selling to £3837.24.  Best Limousins sold to £3715.92 for 794kgs from Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor, Penrith.  This bull was also top price per kilo overall at 468ppk with next best a 735kg Limousin from Messrs Watson, Sanders Close, Brampton receiving 456ppk.

Dairy bred bulls sold to £2254.20 for an 884kg Holstein Friesian from Messrs Elliott, Brackenhow , Carlisle and 620kg from Messrs Wilson, Bowscale, Maryport to £2120.  Top pence per kilo of 368p went to a 584kg Montbeliarde from Seymour Farms, Wigton and 356 ppk for a Holstein Friesian weighing 506kg from Messrs Jackson, Skelton Wood End, Penrith.

PRIME CATTLE – Borderway reigns supreme once again as the top Prime stock ring in the north with another great show of 83 prime steers and heifers forward at this weekly sale.  Twenty five animals sold at £3000 or above.  A days top of £3576.96 went to a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Studholme, Nealhouse, Carlisle, this steer was 864kgs and sold to Mr Eric Hall.  Next best was Wigton farmers Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall with 824kg selling to £3543.20 to A & D Meats.  Best Charolais steer came from returning customer Messrs Pearson, High Plasketlands, Maryport with 773kgs achieving £3246.60.  Top pence per kilo steer came from the Dixon family of Lesson Hall, Wigton with 748kgs selling to 462ppk.  Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton sold next best with 740kg achieving 446ppk.

Heifers saw five attain over £3000 with the highest a 787kg Limousin cross from Messrs Dickinson, Kirkbarrow Hall, Penrith selling to £3186.81 to Eric Hall.  Not far behind was Messrs Lawson, Stubsgill, Workington with 750kgs selling to £3180 and was purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  Joint top overall price per kilo of 462p went to a 625kg British Blue cross from Messrs Telfer, Newton High House, Hexham selling to Morgan Helliwell.  Next best another fantastic heifer selling to 456ppk was a 673kg Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Pearson, High Plasket Lands, Maryport.
