Kirkby Stephen Store Cattle Show & Sale

Harrison & Hetherington held their May Day Show & Sale of store cattle when a catalogued entry of 906 head were on offer.

Topping the sale at £4000 and receiving the Eden Farm Supplies Silver Cup was the Overall Champion, a 13 month old British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Brass, Bridge End Farm, Soulby, which was purchased by the days judge Callum Maciver, Easter Strath, Avoch.

Callum had a fantastic show of cattle put out in front of him which was a credit to consignors.

The reserve championship was awarded to the first placed Limousin steer, a 13 month old which sold for £2780 from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside also selling to the judge.

Messrs Brass, Bridge End Farm also sold 12 month old British Blue heifer to make £3650 to Messrs Allen, Knock Hall, Knock. A 9 month old British Blue heifer from this home sold to make £3500 to Messrs Barnett, Brinns Farm, Shap. The consignment of 40 British Blue and Limousin steers and heifers from Bridge End Farm sold to average £2358.43.

Messrs Tiplady, Red House Farm, Barnard Castle sold a 12 month old British Blue heifer to make £3050 selling to Messrs McAlister, Stirlingshire.

Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby sold a 13 month old Limousin heifer to make £3000 selling to Messrs Hutchinson, Valley Farm, Bowes.

The fantastic consignment of 65 Limousin & British Blue cross heifers and steers from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside topped at £2945 for a 11 month old British Blue heifer which was purchased by Messrs Tindale, Durham. With 13 month old British Blue Steers from this home selling to £2715 with this consignment selling to average £2359.90.

Steers averaged £1932.99 (+£607.69 on the year) with the average age being 12 months old.

Heifers averaged £1882.15 (+£578.16 on the year) with the average age being 13 months old.

Over 60 active buyers were in attendance with buyers travelling the length and breadth of the country.
