Borderway Weaned Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 30^th April, Harrison and Hetherington held their ‘Grass Day’ sale of weaned bulls and stirks.

An exceptional show of 667 stirks and weaned bulls were forward in what was one of the largest days seen in recent years. The sale consisted of 147 bulls averaging £1433.88, topping at £3030 for a Limousin from Messrs Johnston, Sewell Common.

A total of 521 steers and heifers with steers averaging £1421.81 and heifers to £1309.84 which made a whole sale average of £1373.34. A run of cattle for every system was forward to a packed ringside of buyers who travelled from all corners of the UK. Topping the steers went to regular consignor Craig Routledge, Netherton selling an 11 month old Charolais steer to £2000. This run of 36 went to average £1700.28. Heifers topped at £1960 for a British Blue heifer from Messrs Martin, Hesleywell. Messrs Cadzow, Duncrahill Farm House sold 38 Luing and Limousin heifers to average £1401.05 all aged 12 month topping at £1680 for a pen of 6. Messrs Vance, High Skeog sold 61 steers and heifers all British Blues and Limousin dairy bred 10-11 month to average £1164.59 topping at £1300 for 10. Messrs Dale-Sunley, Ross Farm sold 15 Limousin heifers to £1493.33 topping at £1760 for a single. Edward & Ollie Dean, Kirkhouse sold 15 Limousin and Aberdeen Angus 11 & 12 month old steers and heifers to £1501.33 topping at £1780.

Bulls were a delight to sell, with Messrs Edmondson, Low Wood selling 6 Limousins 9/10 month old to average £2106.67 topping at £2190 for a pair. Messrs Langcake, Sandhills sold a wonderful run of 7 Beef bred Limousin to average £1991.43 topping at £2540. Seth Armstrong, Terrance Farm sold five 7/8 month old Limousins to £1734 topping at £1860. Stephen Medley, Prospect Grange sold 11 Aberdeen Angus 12/13 month bulls to average £1620.91 topping at £1730 for a pen of 5.

Many more cattle could have been sold to advantage with Ring 4 offering fantastic returns that simply cant be matched anywhere else.
