Borderway Monthly Dairy Day

QUALITY SHINES

Over 300 freshly calved cattle were forward for the May Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale that had attracted animals from many of the leading herds across Scotland and the North of England.  Trade topped at £3,350 on two occasions with 21 animals selling for or more than £3000 with the trade for 113 Holstein heifers coming to an average of £2611.  

Agri-King sponsored the sale and a top price of £3,350 was equalled for both cows and heifers.  The Errolston herd sold an outstanding group of cows and heifers all producing large volumes of milk and topped the cows with Errolston Bahrain O Gama.

John Lyle from Nether Pratis Farm in Fife who passed away last month had three quality heifers selling in the sale and topped the heifer trade with Crossfell Coffee Harmony at £3,350.  She was sired by OCD Legendary Coffee and was bred from a VG88 dam that twice produced over 16000kgs.  Pacific Zolton Marie from the same home sold for £3,300.

Alister & Sandra Hodge from West Scoutts Farm in Ayrshire sold an outstanding group of heifers to average almost £3000 and topped with Kyleview Rubels Dragonfly selling for £3300.  Sired by Rubles Red, this awesome uddered heifer was giving 40kgs and was bred from eight generations of Excellent or Very Good dams going back to the famous Vieusaule Allen Dragonfly cow in Canada.  Kyleview Rimrock Adeen for the same consignment sold for £3200.

There was a special consignment of freshly calved grazing cows from the Wilson family from Knockneen Farm near Stranraer.  They were robust functional cattle that displayed a great will to milk.  They topped at £2,200 for a Holstein Friesian heifer that had calved in March and was giving 30kgs.

The Newmeadow Holstein herd from Nairn are reducing herd numbers from their high production herd and sold 93 cows and heifers.  They topped at £2,600 for Newmeadow Reformer Helga, a freshly calved heifer tracing back to the Deveronside herd.
