On Wednesday 14th May Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of store cattle. In all honesty we expected a kicking today going by the end of last weeks store cattle trade and the big slip in the beef price, but how wrong were we!
Trade from the off would see cattle every bit as dear as ever despite a very mixed show throughout. Topping the sale overall was a 23m Limousin cross heifer at £2680 from Messrs Beattie, Shieldgreen, Carlisle. Next best heifer was a 20 month old at £2520 from Messrs Sanderson, Swallowdene, Maryport. Best British Blue sold to £2480 from Messrs Halliday, Broathill, Lockerbie. Steers sold to £2660 for a 23 month old Limousin from Messrs Story, Blackrigg, Longtown and British Blues to £2470 for 20 months olds from Messrs Irving, Thackmire, Wigton and Aberdeen Angus to £2460 for a pen of 4 from Messrs Holiday, Newbampton, Wigton.
Dairy bred steers sold to £1940 for two Fleckviehs from Messrs Hebson, Chapel Farm, Carlisle and 4 Holstein Friesian from Messrs Atkinson, Hawkrigg, Appleby sold to £1900.
Many more could have seen sold to vendors advantage.
