BORDERWAY YOUNG STOCK SALE SIZZLES IN THE SUN
The first of the 2025 Spring Dairy Youngstock sales kicked off in style with an outstanding selection of heifers with strong trade for all categories of cattle. The sale featured 379 in calf, bulling and heifers calves consigned from some of the best milk producing farms in the north of England and Scotland. Trade topped at £2700 for a special in calf heifer; Holstein in calf heifers averaged £2149.
Agri-King sponsored the sale with the top price going to Mr Thompson from Longrigg Farm near Brampton who sold eight heifers to average £2420. His top price heifer was sired by Stantons Adorable and was due in June to the Hereford.
Tom Stewart from Sandyknowe Farm near Kelso sold 40 in calf heifers and topped at £2650 for a Norwegian Red sired heifer out of a Holstein dam. She was due in June to the Angus.
Buyers had a quality group of well grown and well-bred Holsten bulling heifers to select from and they topped at £1750 for a daughter of Top Red from a well-bred consignment from William Moffat from East Tarbrax Farm.
Winton Outlay Gail who was consigned by Peter Waring from Yorkshire sold for £1750. She was bred from the much-admired Gail cow family, her dam was a Very Good 86 Sidekick.
Holstein heifer calves topped at £950 for Liscabank Pursuit Dawn who was consigned by Andrew Parkinson from Liscabank Farm near Preston.
A super group of Irish Friesian heifer calves from Farming Partners topped at £400 on several occasions to average £204.
