On Wednesday 14th May, Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sales of weaned cattle.
A good entry of 383 head attracted a packed ringside of buyers with all classes selling sharper on the week.
A larger show of youn bulls topped at £2420 for an Aberdeen Angus cross from Maxwell Farming Company, Druidhall, Thornhill. J & W Wilson, Kirkmabreck, Creetown sold a 12 month Charolais to £2150 and a 13 month old Limousin to £2130. H & W McKie, High Threave, Newton Stewart sold yearling Limousin bulls to £2090 and others to £2070. Norman Farming Co, Little Orton sold a pair of yearling Limousins to £1830. S & RE Williamson, Littleburn, Hamsterley sold a 12 month Charolais to £1800. Peter Vance, Craig Farm, Whithorn sold yearling dairy bred Aberdeen Angus bulls to £1140.
A mixed show of 300 stirks were in hot demand, seeing lean grazing cattle the best to sell. Heifers topped at £2280 for a Limousin cross from Neil Edmondson, Low Wood House selling others to £2080. G & KM Atkinson, Green Farm, Appleby sold an outstanding 11 month old Limousin heifer for £1900 and a pair for £1860. Norman Farming sold a pair of yearling Limousin heifers to £1820. David Brown, Willows Farm, Workington sold a pair of Limousin heifers to £1780. Bullocks topped at £1800 for an 8 month old Limousin from T Nixon & Sons, Longlea, Wark. D & S Robinson, Hawksteel sold an 11 month old bullock for £1700. W & JW Mews, Glendue, Hexham sold an 11 month old British Blue bullocks to £1700. T& D Langcake, Isel Old Park, Cockermouth sold a pair of good grazing 11 month old Blond bullocks to £1680, with the same home selling a pair of 9 month old Charolais bullock to the same price. Dairy bred British Blue heifers sold to £1700 for a pair from AH Hodge, The Grove, Brampton. Yearling Limousin heifers 12 month old sell to £1660 3 times, from Neil Edmondson, Low Wood House and a pair from R & J Byers, Whitehills and TP Wigham, Hargill House, Haltwhistle. D & S Robinson, Hawksteel, Allendale sold a pair of Limousin heifers to £1640. Yearling dairy bred British Blue bullocks sold to £1220 for a pen of 7 and 5 to £1200 from R & DC Carr & Son, Brackenhill. The same home sold a pen of 4 British Blue heifers to £1140.
