Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday Evening when 501 Spring Lambs where forward.

 Topping the sale at £240 and 585.4p/kg was a 41kg Beltex cross lamb from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside.

This home took the overall champion pair of lambs with their first placed pair of 41kg Blue Texel cross which went on to sell for £203.

With another pen of 40kg lambs making £202 505p/kg from this home and another pair of 42kg Texel cross making £194.

The overall reserve pair was the first placed pair of 47kg Texel cross lambs which sold for £220 from Messrs Bell, Hallbankgate Farm, Brampton.

Messrs Beadle, Scaife House, Darlington sold a pair of 40kg Beltex cross lambs to make £203 (507.5p/kg) with this home also selling a pen of twelve 39kg lambs to make £194 (497.4p/kg) and a pair of 39kg at £192 (492.3p/kg).

Messrs Armstrong, Moorriggs, Penrith sold 41kg lambs to make £198.

Messrs Chippendale, Wharton Hall, Kirkby Stephen sold a pen of ten 40kg lambs to make £188.50, with this home also selling a pair of 49kg Texel cross lambs to make £194.

Heavy lambs where also good to sell with Messrs Atkinson, Waitby Farm, Kirkby Stephen selling 53kg Texel cross lambs to £192.

Messrs Bell, Hallbankgate Farm having 56kg at £190, Messrs Wharton, Galloper Rise 49kg at £188 and Messrs Jackson, Powis House, Long Malton selling a pen of three 47kg at £182.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm sold a pair of 48kg Suffolk cross lambs to make £188 (391.7p/kg).

All classes and weights of spring lambs where off the clock here at Kirkby Stephen with an unbelievable SQQ average of 386.8p/kg and an overall average of 378.6p/kg, £162.86 for 501 lambs being achieved!!

These averages where some 30p/kg plus dearer than any trades seen so far in the week with twelve active buyers now sourcing all classes of lambs here at Kirkby Stephen on a weekly basis.
