Borderway Monthly Dairy Day

ROMANCE IS IN THE AIR AT BORDERWAY

Quality cows and heifers were in abundance at the June Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale were the best dairy cattle from across the North of England and Scotland were on offer.  Trade topped at £3,400 with 10 animals selling for or more than £3000 with the trade for Holstein heifers coming to an average of £2618.  

Agri-King sponsored the sale and a top price of £3,400 was sold by the Lawrie family from Grangehall Farm in Lanark.  Grangehall Taos Romance was a perfectly built heifer that flirted with perfection.  She was sired by Taos and bred from a VG87 dam with massive production.  This super group from the Grangehall herd averaged £2862.

The first ten lots in the sale were consigned by the Baillie family from Longlea Farm, Larkhall coming to an impressive £2830 average.  They topped at £3,300 for Netherlea Alta Athens Kerry who was giving 40kgs.   

There was an outstanding group of fresh heifers from the Coppside herd owned by the Jackson family from Guillyhill Farm in Dumfries.  They topped at £3,100 for Coppside Spangle 59.

Cows topped at £2900 twice with both consigned by the Blackwood family from Lanark.  The first was for Colvend Dictator Myrna a second lactation cow giving 51kgs and the second was for a super uddered cow giving 50kgs.

The Newmeadow holstein herd from Nairn are reducing herd numbers from their high production herd and sold 35 cows.  They topped at £2,350 for Espland Attico Dusk, a freshly calved cow giving 48kgs.   

British Friesian were represented in style by the Williamson family with the top price for a second lactation cow selling for £2750 to average £2400. 

Jersey cross bred cows topped at £2,750 for a fresh heifer sired by Hamlet.  Her Holstein dam was sired by Luster P and had produced over 13000kgs in her last lactation.  This super uddered heifer was consigned by the Owen family from Potstown Farm who are dispersing their Holstein herd at Borderway on Wednesday 18^th June. 

Ayrshire cows topped at £2650 for Swaites Mavis 31 who was consigned by the Adamson family from Swaites Farm near Lanark.  She was a fresh second calver giving 40kgs.

An awesome selection of in calf heifers were forward from several breeders to average £2240.  They topped at £2750 for Greencastle Envoy Floss who was cosigned by the Sewell family from Cockermouth.  She was due in July to the Limousin bull and was sired by Bomaz Envoy.
