Kirkby Stephen Prime Hogg Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday Evening when 6,209 sheep were on offer consisting of 1413 spring lambs, 4,088 prime hoggs and 708 cast sheep.

Topping the prime hoggs at £200 was a 76kg Texel cross hogg from JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York.

This home also sold a pen of ten 61kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £197.50, a pen of fifteen 62kg Texel cross hoggs £196, a pen of nineteen 55kg at £190, sixteen 65kg at £190 a pen of seventeen 63kg Texel cross at £190, and a pen of twenty two 64kg Suffolk cross hoggs to make £181.

Beltex cross hoggs sold to 455p/kg for a pen of eight 40kg which made £182 from Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan this home also sold a pen of seven 41kg hoggs at £181 (441.5p/kg).

Messrs Harrison, Grange Hall, Great Asby sold a pen of five 41kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £184 (448.8p/kg) with another pen of seven 38kg hoggs making £166 (436.8p/kg) from this home.

Messrs Pesterfield, Ryebeck Farm, York sold a pen of twenty 66kg Rouge hoggs to make £193 on his first journey to Kirkby Stephen. With another pen of ten 59kg Rouge crosses making 318.6p, £188.

G&E Livestock, Norwich sold a pen of fourty 80kg Suffolk hoggs to make £191. And a pen of fourty four 79kg to make £191.

Messrs Dawson, Mount Pleasant Farm, York sold a pen of 60kg Texel hoggs to make £190 (316.7p).

With this home having confidence in the trade here at Kirby Stephen to sell 1216 prime hoggs in one hit, this run of commercial hoggs sold to average 53kg £165.08 310.35p.

Cheviot Hoggs sold to £177 twice firstly for a pen of twenty five 60kg and also for a pen of eleven 59kg from Messrs Ratcliffe, Whixall Hall, Shropshire.

Messrs Dawson, Mount Pleasant Farm sold a pen of 50kg Mule hoggs to make £162, 324p/kg.

With another pen of 50kg making £150, 300p/kg.

Swaledale hoggs topped at £153 for 59kg from Messrs Dawson, Mount Pleasant Farm

And topped at 295p/kg for 40kg hoggs from Messrs Lawson, Pasture House Farm.

A mammoth entry of 4088 hoggs was forward here at Kirkby Stephen, Achieving an overall average of 296.43p and an SQQ 319.78p and £157.82 per head overall (£10 dearer than markets seen this week).

With a large proportion of the hoggs forward being the consigners final clearance.
