Legends of Logan Sale – A Resounding Success

Thursday 5th June 2025

The much-anticipated Legends of Logan pedigree Holstein sale proved to be a resounding triumph, capturing the attention of breeders and dairy enthusiasts across the UK and beyond. Hosted by the Yates family owners of the renowned Logan Holstein herd, the sale lived up to its prestigious billing, offering elite genetics, exceptional conformation, and proven performance.

The sale topper was the outstanding Logan Ryder Tickle Red VG87, a powerful second calver with exceptional type and presence. She commanded a remarkable 11,000gns, drawing intense interest due to her deep maternal line tracing back to the legendary Strans-Jen-D Tequila EX96. Tickle not only embodies the genetic potential of her lineage but also represents the modern red carrier cow – stylish, productive, and market-ready. She joins the Wiltor herd of the Jones family.

The sale featured a well-curated lineup across all age groups and categories, showcasing the depth of breeding and consistency within the Logan herd:

  • 79 Cows & Heifers in Milk averaged an impressive £4,092.34
  • 29 Bulling Heifers achieved a robust £3,515.69 average
  • 65 Heifer Calves sold to a strong £2,889.92 average
  • 3 Jerseys achieved a notable £4,305 average

These averages reflect the depth of demand for quality stock, both for immediate production and long-term genetic advancement. There was a premium for Red & White cattle with milkers and heifer calves averaging around £1000 more.

With buyers representing both established herds and ambitious new entrants, the sale demonstrated the broad market appeal of Logan breeding. The combination of top-end show potential, sound commercial merit, and elite cow families attracted strong bidding both ringside and online.

A second top price of 9000gns was achieved on three occasions. Firstly for Logan Power Tabitha Red, a VG87 classified two-year-old that stood second in both the Red and Black shows at UK Dairy Expo. Calved in January and bred back to Trent-Way Exclusive sexed, this exciting young cow sold to the Lawrie family for their Arranview herd.

Shortly after Nick MacKenzie secured Logan Jones Altitude Apple Strudel Red at 9000gns for his Parks herd in Muir of Ord. This VG87 scored second lactation cow is a direct daughter of the legendary KHW Regiment Apple-Red EX96. She calved in September and is due in December to sexed Eskil.

The Jackson family then paid 9000gns for Logan Avatar Rae Red, fresh in March in her third lactation she had been AI’d to Acetylene sexed. This stylish young cow is classified Excellent 92, completing 14 generations of VG and EX and has already had success in the show ring.

Her 2024-born heifer calf by Trent-Way Reward Red sold for 6500gns to John Jamieson for his Annan herd.

Selling at 8500gns was the top priced maiden heifer, Logan Hulu Frosty. Backed by 10 generations of VG and EX dams, tracing back to Harvue Roy Frosty EX97-3E, this super stylish black heifer was secured by the Lawrie family for their Arranview herd.

Logan Rubels Seisme Red, a recently classified EX92 third lactation cow backed by eight generations of cows classified VG and EX sold for 7800gns to Robert Martin for Ansavalley Genetics. Fresh in April this young cow was unbeaten as a heifer in milk, her great-granddam was Blondin Redman Seisme EX97 who was twice Grand Champion Red & White at Madison and The Royal.

In recent years the Yates family have had a lot of fun and success in the show ring with Eedy Crushabull Acclaim EX93-2E, the 11th generation of VG and EX. Her January 2025-born daughter by Duckett Diesel sold for 7800gns to Roger Morse for his Cowindale herd in Carmarthen. The Acclaim family is hugely successful and highly sought after in Ireland and this was the first offering in the UK.

Top priced Jersey at 6000gns was Logan Chrome Calgary, an EX91 classified granddaughter of Huronia Centurion Veronica EX97. She is a full sister to the current All Britain Junior Cow Logan Chrome Caribbean VG89. She also joins the Jackson family’s Guillyhill herd.

We are sure that many animals from the Legends of Logan Sale will grace show rings across the country and start foundations for new families in herds.
On behalf of the Yates family we thank everyone for their support at the sale and wish all successful purchasers continued success with their animals.
