PRIME BULLS: Another very good entry of 93 Prime bulls forward with quality increased on the week.  Trade overall would be slightly easier on the week, the biggest and best shaped bulls remain very firm to sell with a days top of £4287.10 going to a 997kg British Blue from Messrs Carr, West Farm, Newcastle and was purchased by Bowland Foods, Preston.  Next heaviest and second top price was an 827kg Limousin from Messrs Thompson, Townfoot, Penrith receiving £3324.54.  Top overall pence per kilo of 430p went to two bulls firstly by D A Harrison, Hill House, Wigton with a 748kg Charolais cross selling to A & D Meats, next to match this price was Messrs Carr with their aforementioned British Blue.

Black and whites sold to £2508.80 for an 896kg Holstein Friesian from Messrs Clark, Whins Farm, Lockerbie, the same home also sold 858kgs to £2402.40.  Montbeliardes from Messrs Little, Kirkbride House, Wigton sold to £2383.92 for 693kg.  Top price per kilo overall was a 601kg Fleckvieh from Messrs Henderson, East Bowhill, Annan achieving 358ppk with another weighing 629kgs selling to 356ppk from the same home.  Montbelairdes to 344p from Kirkbride House.  A 588kg for Ayrshire from Messrs McGarva, Horseclose, Annan sold to 330ppk, matching this price was a 585kg Holstein from East Bowhill, Annan.

PRIME CATTLE:   A decent entry of 61 Prime steers and heifers forward at Borderway weekly sale whereby all classes would be met with a very similar trade to that of last week, despite deadweights dropping a further 10ppk this week.  Topping our sale overall was an 836kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith achieving £3076.48 to Mr Eric Hall.  Messrs Story, Jackson Rigg, Longtown sold next best at £2944,62 for 779kgs Charolais cross, best British Blue came from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle with 733kgs selling to £2873.36, a top price per kilo of 418p went to a 647kg Limousin cross from Messrs Bowe, Bothel Parks, Wigton and Messrs Gass, Nunscleugh, Carlisle sold 568kg Limousin to 413ppk.

Heifers peaked at £2869.44 for a 732kg Limousin cross from Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith and was purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  Next best was a 678kg Limousin cross selling to £2766.24 from Messrs Morton, Church Farm, Penrith.  A top overall pence per kilo of 420p went to a smart 568kg Limousin cross from Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan and was purchased by Mr Alan Jarvis.
