Kikrby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday Evening when 1,642 sheep were on offer consisting of 721 spring lambs, 569 prime hoggs and 352 cast sheep.

Topping the prime hoggs at £215 where a pen of six 62kg Texel cross hoggs from JoJo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York.

This home also sold a pen of nineteen 60kg Texel cross hoggs to make £209, a pen of sixteen 61kg at £205, twenty 62kg at £202, fourteen 65kg at £202, fifteen 59kg at £200, twenty two 63kg Suffolk cross hoggs at £199. And thirteen 60kg Suffolk cross at £197.

The 125 superbly finished and turned out hoggs from this season long supporter sold to average 61.5kg and £202.78 (329.67p/kg).

Blue Texel cross hoggs sold to £213 for an 83kg from Messrs Jewitt, Gracies Farm, Barnard Castle.

Beltex cross hoggs sold to £195 for 67kg from Messrs Boustead, High Lane, Kirkby Stephen.

Messrs Mark, Sunny Gill Farm, Penrith sold a pen of eight 58kg Texel cross hoggs to make £200 with another pen of seventeen 56kg making £197, with this home also topping the sale at 390.2p/kg for 41kg Beltex cross hoggs, and 356.3p/kg.

Hill Cheviot hoggs sold to £171 for a pen of twenty five 48kg hoggs from Messrs Fell, Stanger Hill, Wigton.

Mule hoggs sold to £191 for a pen of six 71kg from Messrs Taylor, Waterhouses, Asby.

Swaledale hoggs sold to £182 for a pen of 55kg from Messrs Gowland, Woodbine House, Ireshopeburn.

Kirkby Stephen Market once again set the bar by boosting the season long suppressed trade for heavy hoggs and lifting these to levels not seen before this year.

An overall average of 310.3p/kg and a wonderful £172.60 was achieved which includes several lots of tail end hoggs.

Hill Cheviot ewes sold to £152 for a pen of eighteen from Messrs Barker, Middle Bank End Farm.

Rough Fell ewes sold to £155 for a pair from Messrs Taylor, Waterhouses, Asby.

Swaledale ewes sold to £150 from Todholes Partnership, Elsdon.
