Borderway Calf Sale

On Wednesday 12^th May at Borderway Mart, Harrison & Hetherington held its weekly sale of calves.

A slightly reduced show of 300 calves was forward, however resulting in a dearer trade on the week in all sections.

Toppin the sale was a British Blue heifer from Messrs Osborne, Silloth selling to £630. Steers and bulls were once again met with a ferocious trade topping twice at £560 for a British Blue steer from Messrs Little, North Greenhill and from Mr Preston, Wedholme for his Limousin bull. Mr Preston’s run of Limousin calves averaged up at £508.

Messrs Smith, Cotehill run of 22 New Zealand style Hereford calves averaged £240. Messrs Balmer, Brough also sold 5 week old Charolais steer to £510.

Dairy bred calves were also a strong demand, with the top price of £320 being achieved twice from Messrs Hill, Wigton with a Holstein Friesian and a Montbelairde from Messrs Farish, Wigton.
