Harrison & Hetherington had an entry 1326 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 827 Store Cattle, 199 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 300 Calves.

STORE CATTLE – A marvellous entry of 827 store cattle forward at Borderway’s weekly sale where trade saw some slight resistance but vendors more than satisfied with their returns. The day’s top price came for local farmers Messrs Garthwaite, Wyseby Hill, Lockerbie selling their Limousin cross heifer to £2200. Messrs Beattie, Shield Green, Carlisle sold one to £1660. Charolais crosses sold to £1615 from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth this same vendor also sold top Aberdeen Angus cross to £1480. Other natives sold to £1300 for 6 Herefords from Messrs Donaldson, Auchafour, Argyle. Steers saw a day’s top of £1690 from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth. British Blues sold to £1560 from Messrs Tamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth. Aberdeen Angus crosses from the same home sold to £1530. Black and whites saw a day’s top of £1400 for a Holstein Friesian from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm.

WEANED CATTLE: The weaned cattle sale at Borderway saw top quality stock and grazing cattle being very well sold. Topping the day was a Limousin bull from Messrs Dixon & Chappelhow, Westfield House selling for £1095. Shapely bulls were very well bid for but bigger dairy bulls harder to sell. Quality bullocks also sold well with a good run of 10–11-month-old Charolais crosses from Messrs Langcake selling to take joint top price at £1070 and the 5 from this home averaging up at £1041. Also selling at £1070 was a Limousin bullock from Messrs Ewart, Stone House, Wark.
