Kirkby Stephen Prime Hogg Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday Evening when 1,642 sheep were on offer consisting of 721 spring lambs, 530 prime hoggs and 352 cast sheep.

Topping this section at £220 was a 63kg Texel cross hogg from young Sam Thompson, York.

Jojo Andrews, Boscar Flats, York sold a pen of eighteen 62kg Texel cross hoggs to make £219, with another pen of seventeen 60kg making £213 a pen if six 58kg at £201 and a pen of ten 56kg at £195.

Messrs Hetherington, Old Hall Farm, Penrith sold a pen of sixteen 73kg Texel x hoggs to make £216, with a pen of twelve 87kg at £210, and a pen of sixteen 73kg Texel cross hoggs to make £216, with a pen of twelve 87kg at £210, and a pen of sixteen 71kg at £208, with a pen of sixteen 64kg Suffolk cross hoggs making £198.50 from this home.

Messrs Mark, Sunny Gill Farm, Ousby sold a pen of four 62kg Texel cross hoggs at £208.

Topping at 400p/kg were a pen of 36kg Dutch Texel cross hoggs from Messrs Fell, Stanger Hill, Wigton.

Messrs Hetherington, Old Hall Farm sold a pen of five 45kg Texel cross hoggs to make £170.

Messrs Jackson, Little Beck, Kings Meaburn sold a pen of six 40kg Beltex cross hoggs to make £154 (385p/kg) with a pen of seven 36kg making £141 (391.7p/kg) from this home.

Blackfaced hoggs sold to £156 for a pen of six 48kg from Messrs Mark, Sunny Gill Farm, Ousby.

Mule hoggs sold to £168 for 53kg from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Workington, with this home also topping the Mule at 332.9p/kg for a pen of six 41kg making £136.50.

Swaledale hoggs topped at 295.2p/kg for a pen of nine 42kg which made £124 from Messrs Jackson, Little Eccleston Hall, Great Eccleston.

All classes and weight of prime hoggs were also considerably dearer with an SQQ average of 321.3p/kg and an overall average of 308.3p/kg and £164.74 being achieved!
