Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington had an entry 1287 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 578 Store Cattle, 208 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 380 Calves and 124 Dairy cattle in the month Border and Lakeland Club Sale

STORE CATTLE – At the weekly sale another marvellous entry 578 store cattle were forward and  sold well throughout, strong cattle looked a shade dearer on the week, however, plainer types harder to place.  Bullocks averaged £1100 with heifers at £1050.  Two vendors shared the top spot this week at £1620 for a Limousin bullock from Messrs Batey, High Knells and a Charolais bullock  from Messrs Johnstone Westray, Cockermouth.  Heifers sold to £1480 for a real smart Limousin x bulling type from Messrs Studholme, Ash View, Wigton.  Native cattle peaked at £1450 from a cracking Beef Shorthorn bullock from Messrs Barron, Maunby House, Thirsk.  Dairy bullocks to £1360 for a British Friesian from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton.

WEANED CATTLE : A smaller show of 208 weanlings was on offer to an increased ring side of buyers which ensured that all classes were great to sell.  Mr George Rome, Niven Hill run of quality Limousin heifers topped at £1520 at 13 months of age.  Messrs Armour, Milton Farm, sold Angus heifers for £1185, £1140 £1090 and £1060 (x2) and a British Blue heifer at £1165.  Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields sold a 12 month old Limousin heifer for £1090.  Messrs Dale- Sunley, Ross Farm, sold two Hereford bulls for £1400 and Messrs Hall & Son, Horsleyhill Farm, sold a Blue x bull for £1270.
