Kirkby Stephen Beef Breeding Sale

Harrison & Hetherington, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their annual May Sale of Beef Breeding cattle when a catalogued entry of 100 cattle were on offer.

Topping the sale at £3400 was the first prize cow with calf at foot, a six year old pure Limousin cow with Limousin heifer calf at foot consigned by Messrs Wilson, Arngill House, Barnard Castle which was bought by the judge Messrs Edmondson, Seathwaite Farm, Seathwaite, Keswick.

Our Judge Mr Edmondson, Seathwaite awarded the first placed heifer with calf to a Limousin cross with heifer calf at foot which sold for £2900 from Messrs Hird, Crackpot, Low Row been purchased by Messrs Harker, Murton Hall.

Next selling at £3100 was a Limousin cross second calver with heifer calf at foot from Messrs Hird, Crackpot purchased by Messrs Edmondson, Keswick.

Messrs Ousby, Bents Farm sold a British blue cross heifer with bull calf at foot for £3000 to Messrs Beckwith, New Hall, Barras.

Trade was flying for all types and ages of outfits, been on of the dearest seen with a cow and calf average of £2640 (+£1069.20 on the year). Heifers and calves averaged £2450.57 (£109.68 on the year). An overall average of £2503.57 being achieved.

Messrs Tindale, Paradise Farm, Durham sold a consignment of 11 continental cross heifer and calves to average £2630.00.

Limousin cross Friesian heifers with calves at foot topped at £2750 on two occasions both from Messrs Capstick, Lockholme Hall, Ravenstonedale with this consignment of 11 Limousin and British Blue cross Friesian heifers and calves averaging £2420.64.
