Prime & Cast Sheep

PRIME LAMBS: On Monday 15th July 2025 Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of prime and cast sheep which saw number rise across both sections, trade was fantastic across all sections with lambs up £3 a head on last week and ewes a flying trade. Over 1100 ewes were sold to a top of £350 for pure texels from Kedlie Farms, Suffolks sold to £224 from McHarrie, Duchra Farm. Mules to £190 with all heavy ewes north of £200, horned ewes sold well to a top of £142 for Swaledales from Messrs Gill, Newlands Farm, Ireby. 1960 spring lambs averaged £164.60 per head or 375ppkg to a top of £245 which was achieved by two vendors firstly Stephanie Dick, Westerton of Cowie, Stirling sold heavy blue texel lambs at this price to Martin Macintyre, this was matched by some stunning Beltex 40kg export lambs from local supporters Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall Farm which also topped per kilo at 612.5p selling to Bowland Foods Ltd, Preston. Messrs Trafford sold 23 lambs to average a mouth watering £227.63 per head. Vendors from all over the UK travelled to Borderway and are enjoying the results a special mention to Messrs Kimber who made the 544 mile round trip to Borderway with lambs and saw a lift of circa 65-70p per kilo on his local outlets, the road to profit is never a long one, and the miles are worth covering to maximise the true potential value of your stock, it’s great to see many new faces join our loyal support and enjoy the Borderway buzz
