Prime Cattle & Bulls

PRIME BULLS: A larger entry of 100 Prime bulls forward at Borderways weekly sale of Prime bulls.  An edge would be off this week’s trade compared to last weeks despite this they are by no means a bad trade!  Topping the sale overall was a 25 month old British Blue from Messrs Dickinson, Kirkbarrow Hall, Penrith at £3679.84 for 844kgs.  This bull was also top pence per kilo at 436ppk selling to A & D Meats.  Next best at £3101.56 was 742kgs from Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle for a Limousin.  A 14month old Charolais from Messrs Duff, The Laythes, Penrith sold to £2764.74 and Messrs Bell, Winterhope Lockerbie sold a Maine Anjou at the same age to £2742.28.

Dairy bred bulls sold to £2185 for 775kg Friesian from Messrs Bland, The Flatt, Brampton. A top pence per kilo of 333 went to a 567kg Montbelairde from Seymour Farms, Wigton and Friesian sold to 326 from Messrs Reed, Croft House, Carlisle.

PRIME CATTLE: Yet another great entry of 75 Prime steers and heifers forward at Borderways weekly Prime sale, whereby trade today would see a rise on the week.  A lot of big heavy cattle and loads of meat were on offer.   Four steers sold over £3000 to a day’s overall top of £3213.70 or 913kgs from Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton.  Messrs Airey, The Close, Carlisle sold 830kgs to £3037.12 both purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  Top pence per kilo steers was for a 721kg British Blue cross from Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, Carlisle achieving  411ppk equating to £2963.31 to A & D Meats.

Heifers lacked on quality on the whole, despite this two nailers from DA Harrison, Hill House, Wigton topped at £2726.32 for 643kgs and 609kgs to £2618.70.  This heifer was top overall pence per kilo at 430.  Messrs Grainger, Kiln Close, Wigton sold a good run off well fleshed heifers and peaked at £2613.60 for 726kg,  out with DA Harrison top pence per kilo at 430 and 424.  Next best came from Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith at 416 for 623kgs selling to Steven Wilson Butchers Shops, Corby Hill and Bampton
