Greenmoorside Holstein Friesian & Jersey Dispersal Sale

The dispersal of the Greenmoorside Holstein Friesian and Jersey herd took place at Borderway on 23^rd July with buyers recorded from 11 counties with animals going to all the home nations.  Trade topped at 3,100gns with the overall average for milkers coming to £2072.

The Greenmoorside herd was owned and managed by Liz Sherwen who have farmed at Greenmoorside Farm in West Cumbria for the past forty years.  Liz had decided to retire from dairy farming with no successor to take on the milking apron.  The cows were a blend of the best of the Holstein and British Friesian and Jersey and Jersey cross bred cows.  

Topping the sale at 3,100gns was a special heifer in milk sired by Denovo Generate, she had recently calved on the 12^th July and was bought by Mr Robinson from Stranraer.

Jersey’s topped at 3,000gns for a super uddered heifer, she had calved in May and was bought by the Bland family from Penrith.

Milking cows topped at 2,900gns for another daughter of Denovo Generate, she had calved in early June and was bought by Mr Robinson from Stranraer.

In-Calf heifers averaged £1917 for Holstein and Jersey heifers due from September to April, they topped at 2,300gns for Denovo Generate daughter due in October to Bomaz Easton sexed. She was bought by Mr Connolly from Stranraer.

Bulling heifers sold exceptionally well topping at 1700gns with a December-born Goonhilly Cornelly daughter selling to Mr Faulder from Cockermouth. This super group of Holstein and Jersey cross bulling heifers averaged £1359.

Heifer calves were in strong demand averaging £777 and topped at 1,550gns for an August born  Goonhilly Cornelly daughter who was bought by the Nicholson family from Dumfries.  Her dam was a tremendous dry cow who sold for 2,600gns due soon with her sixth.
