Borderway Store and Weanling Cattle Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

Harrison & Hetherington had an entry 1082 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 389 Store Cattle, 341 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, and 352 Calves.

STORE CATTLE – A smaller entry of only 389 store cattle forward for the last sale in May whereby all things considered a great trade was had throughout the strongest of the cattle with a slight easing on some of the longer keep cattle.   Top overall was £1600 on two occasions, firstly by Messrs Batey, High Knells Farm, Carlisle with their Limousin cross steer and Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth selling another to the same price.  Messrs Metcalfe, Littlewater, Penrith sold their best to £1550.  Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton had the top price Beef Shorthorn selling to £1500. Heifers were also well up in the money seeing a day’s top of £1560 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Johnstone, Westray, Cockermouth.  Messrs Hewitson, Lords Close, Maryport peaked at £1535.  Messrs Stamper, Rose farm, Cockermouth sold a flashy Charolais cross to £1550 and finally Simmental crosses for Messrs Lawson, Newhouse Farm, Carlisle sold to a top of £1340.

WEANED CATTLE : Despite the poor weather trade still remains strong on the whole and cattle are still in high demand.  A larger show of 350 bulls and weaners were forward with an abundance of buyers after grass cattle.  Bulls topped at £1520 for an outstanding 9 month old pure Limousin from Messrs Pattinson of Bonshawside. The same home also had one at £1310.  Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields also had pure Limousin bulls which sold at £1220, £1170 and £1070.  Simmental bulls topped at £1210 from Messrs Irving of South Croft.  Heifers topped at £990 for a British Blue from Mr Lord, The Bog.  Limousin heifers were up to £970 from Messrs Coulthard, Davygill and Charolais to £960 from McNabney Bros, Barsalloch.  Aberdeen Angus bulls sold to £900 from the same home.  The top price bullock was a Charolais from Messrs Ackerley, Milton Mains.
