PRIME BULLS: Another good entry of 96 Prime bulls forward at Borderways weekly sale with an age range of 12-30 months. All classes were a marvellous trade being some 10-20 pence dearer on the week. Topping the sale overall was an 886kg Limousin at 18 months old from Messrs Priestley, Cracrop, Brampton achieving £3880.68. A British Blue from Messrs Comrie, Stonebyres, Lanark sold to £3462.80 for 787kgs selling to Bowland Foods, Preston. Messrs Harvey, Buchanan Street, Glasgow sold an 988kg Hereford to £3458. Top overall pence per kilo went to the British Blue bull from Messrs Comrie at 440ppk with next two best at 438 both from Messrs Priestley, Cracrop and finally Messrs Hunter, Upper Brydekirk, Annan to 432 ppk.
Dairy bred bulls sold to £2168.10 for 657kgs from Messrs Todhunter, Stone House, Wigton and £2145 for 658kg from the same home. Friesians to £1996.22 for 661kgs from Messrs Mattocks, Row Hall, Maryport. Top pence per kilo went to a 628kg Holstein Friesian also from Messrs Mattocks, this sold to 340ppk. Norwegians Reds sold to 328p for 606kgs from Messrs Little, Kirkbride House, Wigton.

PRIME CATTLE: A much smaller show of 54 Prime steers and heifers forward at Borderway’s weekly sale. More quality forward on the week but without doubt all classes sharper once again. Topping overall at £3126.96 was an 808kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Bell, Hoddamtown, Lockerbie selling to Ed Nield & Partners, Sandbach. Next best was 744kgs from Messrs Miller, West Farm, Aspatria achieving £3057.04 to A & D Meats. Hoddamtown sold another to £3045.24 for 769kgs to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle. Top pence per kilo of 412p went to Messrs Miller, West Farm 742kg British Blue cross. Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House sold next best of 400 ppk for 646kgs,
Heifers sold to a top of £2998.08 for a 694kg Limousin cross from Messrs Hird, West End, Cockermouth purchased by Steven Wilson, Butchers Shop, Corby Hill and Brampton. This heifer was also top overall price per kilo of 432p. Next best heifer also from the Hirds weighed 677kg and sold to £2911.10 430ppk. Messrs Scott, Dalton Hook, Lockerbie sold 708kg Limousin to £2846.16. D A Harrison, Hill House, Wigton sold 654kgs to 416ppk purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.
