On Friday 28th May, Harrison & Hetherington held their monthly sale of Beef Breeding cattle.
COWS & HEIFERS WITH CALVES AT FOOT: A great entry of 415 cows and heifers with calves at foot were forward to a keen ringside of buyers, ensuring a good trade for all classes with 25 units selling for £3000 plus, and 182 lots selling to £2000 plus and an overall average of over £2200.
Craig Malone, Pitcairn Farm, run of six outstanding heifers and calves average £3540 and topped at £6000 for a Limousin cross heifer ‘she’s a belter’ with a Limousin cross bull calf at foot. She’s a Belter won 1st prize at the Baby Beef classes at Borderway Agri Expo 2019, and was sired by the Limousin sire Ickle Joker.

Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale sold a run of 27 Limousin cross calves and British Blue cross heifers with calves at foot to average £2785 and topped at £4700 and £3800 for a British Blue cross heifer and Heifer calf. Limousin cross cows and heifers with calves sold for £3600.
Messrs Johnson, West Wharmley run of outstanding heifers and calves averages £2614 topping at £3800 and £3500 for Charolais cross heifers and bull calves.
Mr Neil Barclay, South Road sold a pure Limousin Heifer and calf sold for £3500.
Messrs Renton, Highlaws sold a British Blue cross cow with Blue calf or £3400.
Messrs Wilson, Parsonage Farm sold a British Blue cow and bull calf for £3300.
The top breeding bull sold to £2940 for a Limousin bull consigned by Messrs Baillie, Calla.

BULLING HEIFERS: A very good entry of 380 bulling heifers forward, whereby a good trade was achieved throughout. Top overall was a superb Limousin cross out of a British Blue cow from Messrs James Crichton, Loughrigg, Egremont. Messrs Renton, Highlaws, Morpeth sold their best two for £2020 each, followed by and other two beast selling to £2000 each. Firstly from Foley Bros, Mirlaw house and secondly by Messrs Pearson, High Plasket Lands Farm, Maryport. Messrs Pearson then sold the top price British Blue cross to £2000.
