PRIME BULLS: An increased show of 88 Prime bulls forward selling to a very similar trade to that of last week. Heaviest bull and top price came from Messrs Ridley, Haltcliffe Farm, Wigton selling 775kgs to £3317 at 15 months old.  Messrs Ridley also sold 762kgs for 14 months old to £3185.16 both selling to A & D Meats.  Best Charolais cross came from Messrs Crichton, Nether Locharwoods, Dumfries selling 763kg to £2960.44.  Best British Blue crosses and Blondes came from Messrs Laird, Lochhead Farm, Fife who sold a marvellous run of 20 Prime bulls to a top of £2846.16 for 708kgs and £2837.10 for 735kg.  Top price per kilo overall went to Messrs Ridley top bull above achieving 428ppk.  Messrs Mitchinson, Beck House, Carlisle sold next best at 426p for a 21 month old 689kg Limousin cross.

Dairy bulls were few and far between today.  Best sold to £2186.38 for a 679kg Montbeliarde from Seymour Farms, Wigton.  Holstein Friesians sold to £2160 for 750kg from Messrs Pickering, Peel Flatt Farm, Hexham and a thick 595kg Fleckvieh sold to £2153.90 from Messrs Pinguey, Haythwaite Lane Farm, Carlisle.  This bull was also top overall pence per kilo at 362p.  Best Holstein Friesians was a 644kgs selling to 328p from Messrs Mitchell, Mirkbooths, Carlisle.

PRIME CATTLE: An increased number once again of 84 Prime steers and heifers forward at Borderways weekly Primestock sale.  All classes noticeably dearer on the week once again and the sale saw eight sell over £3000 with a day’s overall average of £2547.26 for the 84.

Taking the top price honours were Messrs Story, Newbigggin Farm, Carlisle with 861kgs Limousin cross making £3366.51.  Messrs Story sold next best which was 839kgs to £3314.05 to Eric Hall.  Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton sold a superb 793kg Limousin to £3251.30 and Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton to £3153.93 for an 881kg British Blue cross.  Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall sold top pence per kilo of 410p for their aforementioned 793kgs and Messrs Wilson, Bowscales, Maryport sold next best at 408ppk for 653kg British Blue cross.

Heifers peaked at £2997.58 for a 742kg Blonde cross from Messrs Dixon, Lesson Hall, Wigton purchased by Pioneer Foods, Carlilse.  Messrs Story, Newbiggin sold next best at £2972.50 for 785kg selling to Steven Wlson, Butchers Shops Corby Hall and Brampton. Top overall pence per kilo of 436p went to Messrs Brough, Old Rectory, Kirkbampton selling a 602kg Limousin cross, the same vendors sold the next best at 428p for 633kgs selling to R & JP Mulholland Butcher Shop, Great Orton, Carlisle.
