Cast Ewes and Prime Hoggs

PRIME LAMBS: On Monday 11th August Harrison & Hetheringtons held their weekly sale of prime and cast sheep which saw an increased entry of 3847 head forward. 1236 cast sheep sold this week saw heavy and fit sheep , irrespective of breed, a great trade , however with a larger portion of plainer and hill ewes forward which would be slightly easier than seen of late, two vendors broke the £400 mark first to do it was Messrs Forster, East Warmley , Hexham who sold Texel ewes to £400, with this figure then topped by a fantastic pure bred once again achieving £420 this one from Messrs Templeton, Glenlaugh Farm, Dumfries both of these purchased by Saj Shan, Yorkshire Halal Meats, Blue texels sold to £260 and suffolks to £250 both from Messrs Hewson, Burgh Head, Carlisle with mules to £196 from Messrs Crichton, Nether Locharwoods Dumfries , Cheviot ewes sold to £198 twice from Messrs Jackson, Rigg Side, Penrith and also Paul Leonard Pettigo Horned ewes sold to £156 for a pen of 7 from first time vendors Messrs Walker , Drumbuie, Sanquhar and swales not far behind at £150 from Messrs Marrs, Manor Farm, Wigton. Lambs were subject to a sharper trade on the week, with 4 vendors in the 500p club to a top of 585.4 from Messrs Storey Woodhead, Hexham, 569.8p from Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite, Wigton 525p Messrs Lee, Agars Hill, Hexham and 511.6p from Messrs Urwin, Hill House, Brampton all selling to Bowland Foods, Preston. Two of the aforementioned lambs topped the sale at £240 and £245 for Messrs Storey and Messrs Trafford, who also lead the consignments with 12 selling to av £208 or 460ppkg heavies a marvelous trade to £225 from Messrs Spedding, Stoneflatts, Kirklinton with Messrs Graham, Greenshields, Biggar sold a great run of heavies to average £200.08 to a top of £203 With no fewer than 26 pens over £200 a head and 39 pens sold over 400p mules sold to £172 from Messrs Wallace, Gapshields , all types weights breeds and grades are easily sold in Borderway, and we are back next week!
