Borderway Store Cattle & Weanling Sale

Harrison & Hetherington had an entry 1140 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 338 Store Cattle, 200 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 311 Calves and 291 dairy cows in the monthly Borderway Monthly Dairy Day.

STORE CATTLE – At the weekly store sale 338 store cattle were forward.  Numbers of cattle continue to dry up, this combined with the plenty supply of grass ensured a lift in all classes of cattle with smart younger grazing types in particular seeing interest levels rise.  Strong sorts continue to top the market with T B Stamper & Co, Rose Farm, Cockermouth selling to £1675 for Limousin bullocks with his run of 7 cattle averaging £1573.57, this also included the top price heifer on the day at £1560 again for a Limousin.  TH & PA Johnstone, Westray Farm, Cockermouth followed closely with heifers to £1550 with their 4 levelling at £1517.50.  Young cattle sold to £1200 on 3 separate occasion for yearlings brought forward by Messrs Pritchard, Evistones, Otterburn.

WEANED CATTLE: A smaller show of 200 weanings were on offer with a larger ring side of buyers which ensured that all classes being sharper on the week.
Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields Farm sold 3 Limousin Bulls which topped at £1320 £1180 and £1170.  Messrs Carter, Gerrard House Farm sold a Simmental Bull for £1000.  Messrs Johnston, Horsemoorhill run of Limousin x bullocks and heifers topped at £920 (x2) and £900 (x2) for bullocks and £820 for heifers.  Messrs Moore, Brayshaw run of cattle topped at £910 for an Angus bullock and finally Messrs Coulthard & Son, Davygill Farm, Limousin heifer sold for £820.
