WREAYWOOD TOPS WITH ABBOR APRIL

The June Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale had an array of dairy cattle with Holstein, Ayrshire, British Friesian, Montbeliarde, Fleckvieh, Brown Swiss and Pro Cross cattle on offer.  346 head were traded with the top price coming to £2100 for an impressive heifer with the overall average for milking heifers coming to £1726. 

Although the trade was similar on the month there were several animals looking excellent value for money with and number of buyers absent due to the excellent silage making conditions. Fifteen animals sold for £2000 or more with buyers recorded from 18 counties across England, Scotland & Wales.   

Wreaywood Holsteins sold 14 cows and heifers to average £1965 and topped the trade at £2100 for Wreaywood Abbor April.  There were five cows from this consignment that sold for £2000 including a daughter of AltaPaxon giving 53kgs

The Lyle family from Neither Pratis Farm in Fife sold 14 cows and heifers and were joint top price on the cow trade at £2000 for a Comestar Lineman cow with an attractive udder.

Balcurvie Holsteins sold a quality group of heifers all giving oceans of milk and topped at £2020 for an AltaArabo daughter giving 35kgs

British Friesian cows and heifers sold well to average £1807 and topped at £2050 for a second lactation cow from the Williamson family from the Howes Farm near Appleby. 

A small number of Ayrshire cows and heifers sold and topped at £1800 twice the first a beautiful uddered heifer from the Cuthill Towers herd and the second was a very milky heifer from the Stevonson’s herd near Stranraer.

The Birse family from Drumraik Farm dispersed their highly productive pedigree Holstein and cross bred dairy herd.  This impressive group of milkers topped at £1950 on seven occasions the most noted was Drumraik Tiergan Sonia who calved back in March and was giving 36kgs.  The youngstock from this fine herd followed the milkers and topped at £1500 for a Montbeilarde heifer due in October to the Angus.

The overall top price went to one of the Pedigree Fleckvieh bulls consigned SQ Fleckvieh Genetics. This impressive young sire had an impressive genomic proof with over 1000kgs of milk and sold for £2600.

Holstein in calf heifers due in the summer sold well and topped at £1800 for a heifer consigned by PRW Farming in Castle Douglas.  She was sired by Annandale Hastag and was due to Flame sexed for July. 

Mr Hummel dispersed his Pro Cross youngstock comprising all his in-calf and bulling heifers and topped at £1700 for a Norwegian Red sired heifer due in the Autumn.

The sale finished with some well grown heifer calves from East Farm.  They were sired by Hennikers Whirl Wind and Wilra ABS Luigi, these March born calves topped at £620 to average £464
