SALE OF WEANED CATTLE

On Wednesday 20th August Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of weanling cattle saw all classes sharper on the week and numbers well short of buyer requirements. A useful selection of store bulls topped at £2560 for a tremendous pure Limousin from Norman Farming Co, Little Orton the same good home sold another outstanding bull to £2500. KD & DE Millar, Crookholm retuned to Borderway once again with a great run of Limousin Bulls topping at £2410 for 9 month old British Blue and averaging £2122 for 3. D Garthwaite & Son, Wyseby Hill Cottage sold an 11month Limousin to £2370. DH & JM Murray, The Throp sold a 10 month Limousin bull to £2200. Charolais Bulls sold to £2100 from JH Baty & Son, Broomhill. Hereford bulls topped at £2010 for a pair from A Graham & Sons, Barnglies. Messrs Fearon, Low Row sold a pen of 7 month old Dairy Bred Angus bulls to £1120. Connell Farm Ltd, East Drummodie sold a pen of 3 6 month old Dairy bred Simmental bulls to £1020. Yearling Holstein Bulls sold to £760 from W B Postlethwaite & Son, Mite House.

Topping the stirks today was a wonderful pair of Limousin Bullocks from John Smith-Jackson, Lipwood selling for £2240. Heifers sold to £1700 twice for a pair of Limousin crosses and a single Limousin cross both from RW Dixon, Hedley East Farm. W & JW Mews, Glendue sold a pair of Limousin heifers to £1660. Simmental Heifers sold to £1530 for a yearling from Messrs Trafford, Springfield. British Blue bullocks sold to £1650 from JG & JW Edgar, The Flatt, the same good home sold a pen of 5 Blue bullocks to £1570. NP Fish, Crossrigg sold a pen of 3 yearling Dairy Bred Charolais bullocks to £1500.
