SALE OF STORE CATTLE

WEDNESDAY 20th AUGUST 2025

On Wednesday the 20^th August Borderway Market, Carlisle held their Anniversary week store cattle sale with a good entry of 608 forward selling to an unbelievable trade with a days overall average of £2107.56, Steers averaged a whopping £2178.70 and heifers levelling at £2009.10. The pre-sale show was kindly judged by father and son Michael & Lee Swann of York who both awarded the overall champion to Messrs Livingstone, Kirtlevale, Gretna with a Limousin cross heifer who later sold for £2900. Reserve honours went to the first prize Limousin Steer from Messrs Charlton, Crown Point, Penrith selling to £2980 a big thanks also goes to out sponsors for the week Oil Fast and Kircaldy & Roe.

Other highlights throughout the day saw another steer sell to £2980 this was for a Limousin cross from Messrs Beattie, Rattlingate Farm, Carlisle. Messrs Priestly, Cracrop Farm, Brampton sold the first prize British Blue Cross to £2960. Charolais sold to £2780 for one of Messrs Baty, Broomhill, Carlisle annual run of 30. Heifers sold to £2800 from Messrs Beattie, Rattlingate for two Limousin crosses. Top British Blue Crosses came from Uskstar Ltd, Brampton selling to £2720 and the best Charolais cross from the Baty’s at Broomhill with a 19 month old heifer selling to £2700.
