STORE LAMBS – OPENING SALE

On Thursday 21^st August Harrison & Hetherington held its annual August show & sale of store lambs in Lazonby Market. A catalogued entry of 3000 went under the hammer to average £104. This trade must be said this average is incredible given that 1350 were mule lambs. Before the sale the pre show took place after looking over the pens this year Judge Mark Emerson awarded the championship to the first prize pen of continental cross lambs from Willie & Connor Lee, Lintly which later sold for top price of the day of £158 for 16. Messrs Raine, Randleholme sold a wonderful pen of Beltex lambs to £148.50 for his pen of 30. Hill/Cheviots from R & J Watson, Croglin Low Hall sold 20 to £146. Suffolk lambs sold to £156 for a pen of 5 from A R & J A Kidd, The Keld. Mules were once again out in force with 1350 sold averaging £99.04. top price went to the first prize pen from Peter Smith, Parson Shields selling 10 to £136. First vendor Geoff Wharton sold 20 to £118 as did David Hill, Whitewall Farm. Highlights then to the Watson family who sold a full pen of 169 mules to £9250 & the Brown family selling 90 to £100. Long term lambs were still buyable with lambs still making £80/£90.  

Many more needed to satisfy demand in Lazonby. Our next sale is on the 4^th of September
