On Friday 22^nd August Harrison & Hetherington held its “August Fair” sale of breeding sheep. With uncertainty regarding drought and the lack of grass, trade remained strong with averages rising £20 on the year to level at £225. Top price today was £305 firstly from Messrs Harrison, Aldermanseat, Gretna with a pen of 12 Millenium Bleu cross gimmers. N & K Gill, Moory Lea, Barnard Castle also sold a pair of texel cross gimmers to the same price. Messrs Harrison, Aldermanseat then sold 10 Millenium cross gimmers to £300, followed by another pen of 9 at £270 and 20 texel mules at £265. This tremendous consignment averaged £262 for £128. Seymour Farms Consignment of Suffolk cross gimmers topped at £275 for 10 averaging £267.5 for their run. Messrs T Edmondson, High Mansrigg sold Suffolk gimmers to £275. Ewes topped at £300 for 2 shearling Texel crosses from Messrs Winter, Brow Top, Silloth. This consignment of 2 shears then sold to £255 x2, £250, £245 and £240 and averaged £224. Messrs Edmondson, High Mansrigg sold a pen of 7 3 shear Suffolk cross ewes to £245. They then sold another 7 to £240 and 10 at £220. Messrs Harrison, Aldermanseat sold a 3 shear texel cross cheviot ewe to £280 the proceeds were kindly donated to Cancer Research and The Brain Tumour Charity.
