TOP DAY FOR THE BROWNFIELD HERD
Wednesday 3rd September was another fantastic day at the Borderway Sale Centre with 1368 cattle sold with the total sale turn over well over two million pounds. The dairy sale featured 255 cattle with values remaining strong for all categories. Trade topped at 3,900gns with the overall average for cows coming to £3035 with over 50% of the milkers selling for or more than £3000. Buyers from across the UK packed the ringside with cattle going to 13 counites in England, Scotland and Wales.
Topping the sale at £3900 was Brownfield Evermore Heath, an outstanding heifer giving over 40kgs and sired by Denovo Heath. She was consigned by Matthew Gemmel from Brownfield Farm in Dumfries.
The Wadsworth family from Big Balcraig Farm in Newton Stewart sold ten exceptional heifers topping at £3700 with four selling for £3500 or above to average £3238. They were sired by Hardball and Captivate and all had high PLI and were producing oceans of milk.
Kaemuir Holsteins sold a super group of nine cows and heifers and topped the cow trade at £3650 to average £3077. Topping at £3700 was Kaemuir Kenmore Breeze who was sired by Denovo Kenmore she was fresh in her second and was giving 44kgs.
No less than seven animals sold for £3650 with several of these top sellers being consigned by BF Dairy Farm near Glasgow. They sold 11 cows and heifers to average £3354 with Lettrickhills Luster P Pollyanna who was giving 51kgs and a super udder heifer Letterickhills Luster Anna who was giving 33kgs selling for £3650.
The Livingstone family from Kirtlevale Farm near Gretna sold 22 heifers to average £3166 topping at £3650 for Kirtlevale Renegade June who was bred from an Excellent Flagship dam.
Cairnhead Farm from near Ainstable sold 33 late lactation New Zealand Friesian cows that were running with the Angus sire since June. They topped at £2200 for a fourth lactation cow sired by Koepon Raptor and was giving 255kgs. This impressive group averaged £1509.
In calf heifers were once again in demand topping at £2900 to average £2308. The best trade for the in calf heifers Robert and Shelia McColm who farm near Stranraer who sold 14 heifers to average £2507 and topped with Soulseat Fancy Man Tallulah. This was a special Brown Swiss heifer and the very last to sell from this farm.
