BORDER & LAKELAND AUTUMN BULL SALE SETS A NEW BORDERWAY RECORD

Warnelview Holstein’s bulls average over £8000!   

The 37th Annual Autumn Bull sale held on behalf of the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club had an outstanding selection of bulls on offer from the best cows and the best herds in the UK.  The Borderway record price for Holstein Friesian bulls set back in the spring at 10,000gns was broken on two occasions with the new record of 12,800gns now etched in the history books.  The sale averaged £5138 with a 100% clearance watched by a packed ringside had buyers from across the UK in attendance with buyers recorded as far north as Aberdeen and south to Somerset.

The show was sponsored by Finance For Farms and judged professionally by Sandy Pirie from Machrihanish Farm near the Mull of Kintyre.  He selected Woodmarsh Omaha as his overall Champion bull, he was consigned by Micky Gould from Shropshire.  Omaha was an Unix son and was bred from a deep cow family.  His full sister sold in the Woodmarsh dispersal sale for 16,000gns and is now an Excellent 92 pointed cow.  Omaha sold for 6,500gns to the Dickinson family from Penrith.

The Woodmarsh herd also won Reserve Champion with Woodmarsh Zar who was also named as the Production Champion bull.  He was sired by Doorman and bred from six Excellent dams going back the famous bull dam Ocean-View Mandel Zandra EX95 who was the dam of Zenith as Select Sires.  Zar sold for 3,000gns to the Hainey family from Stranraer.

The Warnelview herd owned by Kevin & Chrstine Wilson from Thursby, Carlisle had the trade of the day in the Holstein section selling five bulls to average £8032 and topped at 8,800gns for the youngest bull in the sale with Warnelview Verona going to the Allen family from Shropshire.  Verona was sired by Hardy and was bred from ahigh production line of cows going back to a famous Excellent 96 pointed cow that produced over 110 ton of milk in her lifetime. 

Warnelview Rembrandt sold for 8,000gns to Mr Kellet from Northumberland.  Rembrandt had an amazing pedigree with his five closest dams producing 580 ton of milk in their lifetime with the first nine dams all classified Excellent.  His fifth dam is the famous Warnelview Goldwyn Ruby cow that was the Former #1 PLI Cow in the breed and was a dam of several top AI sires.

The British Frisian bulls broke the Borderway record on two occasions throughout the sale.  The first was for the winning Junior bull who was also named Reserve British Friesian Champion, Nerewater Awesome Admiral who was consigned by Richard Bell from Wigton who sold for 12,000gns to Mr Ward from Lancaster.  Nerewater Awesome Admiral’s first two dams were both classified Excellent 93 both with lactation so over 11000kgs and massive lifetime production.  The Nerewater herd sold another three bulls to average £7630.

Massive congratulations must go to the Blamire family from Thursby Carlisle who set a new Borderway record with Whinnow Perfect who sold for 12,800gns to Mr Richardson from near Appleby.  Whinnow Perfect was sired by Inch Jake and was bred from am impressive line of National Champions.  His third dam Lismulligan Priscilla 41 EX94 was a two time National Champion winning Grand Champion at UK Dairy Expo in 2014 and 2015.  His Grand Dam was the UK Production  Champion in 2018 and 2021 and was Reserve Grand Champion at UK Dairy Expo in 2018. 

The Champion British Friesian title went to Winnoch Picasso who was consigned by the Brocket family from Renfrewshire.  Picasso sold for 6,500gns to Mr Adams from Stranraer, he was bred from a super line of high butterfat and protein dams all over 5.5% butterfat and 3.8% protein.        

The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 17th September and features 260 Pedigree Holstein dairy cattle in Border & Lakeland Club sale which also includes the dispersal of the Greengrass Holstein herd.  On Wednesday 24th September the annual sale of the Middle Red & White herd takes place featuring 250 of the most recently calved cows and heifers in the herd.  Catalogues for these sale can be viewed online at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk or can be order from the Pedigree Office 01228 406230
