SHEARLING SPECTACULAR GIMMER SALE
THURSDAY 11^th SEPTEMBER 2025

On Thursday 11^th September Harrison & Hetherington conducted the new & improved Shearling Spectacular sale in Borderway Market. The combination of the Mule and Continental sheep brought round a buzz which hadn’t been seen for a while with a packed ringside of buyers ensuring sheep were well bid for from start to finish. An entry of 1500 mules were forward to average an astonishing £243.61 +£23. Before the sale the pre show took place with judge Matthew Watson stepping in to do he honours. This years show pens which has an increased entry saw the championship go to Adam Lawson, Hundith which later sold to top price of the day £310 to the Judge. This run of 112 went on to average £259.57. The second prize pen from Messrs Harrison, The Sceugh made £275 and saw the normal fantastic quality sheep to £250.39. John Baty & Family brought pen after pen of quality selling his run of 176 to average £263.07 however trade of the day went to Colin & James Little who sold there run of 55 to average a astounding £274.09.

Continental, Texel and Suffolk bred shearlings sold to a great trade, topping at £580 (x2) for Texels from L Smith, Roachburn, Brampton. This dispersal averaged £406. Harrison and Hetherington’s would like to thank The Smith Family for their support. G J Toppin, Bascodyke, Armathwaite sold 10 Texels to £425 following on at £415 (x10), £385 (x10) and £380 (x10), averaging £333 for £137. JW Cowan, 3 Brickrow Cottages topped at £380 for Beltex Gimmers with R, R & L Beaty, Newtonfield selling to £375 for Texels. Messrs E MacTaggart, Rascarrell had Beltex’s at £345. Messrs Bethell, 2 Park House has Texels to £315. PT & SM Hewitson, Byresteads sold a pen of 10 Texel x Mules to £310. These stood first in our pre-sale show. Thanks to Mr Thomas Mounsey, Askrigg for Judging. MW Hewitson, Shatton Lodge, Cockermouth had a pen of 18 Texel x Mules at £305 they also sold at £300 (x18), £300 (x14), £290 (x10) this run averaged £299.83. Charollais sold to £305 from Messrs J Anderson, Midtown. Messrs Houldey, Kirtleton sold a pen of Suffolk crosses for £300.

A great buzz was around Borderway with averages up all round.
