Kirkby Stephen Store Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their annual September store cattle sale.

Topping the sale at £2820 was todays champion a 16 month old British Blue steer from Messrs Slack, Plumtree House, Newby selling to Mr D Barker, Scarborough.

Todays show was judged by Dennis Wollacott, Devon and was kindly sponsored by Cornthwaite Agriculture.

Next selling for £2525 was a Limousin cross steer from Messrs Benson, Gamswell Farm, Ulverston purchased by Taylors Farm Shop, with this home also sold a Limousin cross heifer to £2515 purchased by Messrs Swann, York with Limousin steers making £2415, £2345, £2325 and a pen of five Limousin cross steers making £2285 from this home. This consignment of 42 cattle from Gamswell farm averaging £2168.21.

Messrs Hodgson, Soulby Grange, Soulby sold a 13 month old Limousin cross steer to make £2445 with a 15month old Limousin steer making £2345 also from this home. Selling 17 month old Limousin heifers to £2305 and £2300.

Messrs Hughes, Dona Close sold 16 month old Limousin cross steers to make £2400 with other Limousin steers from this home selling for £2345, £2305 twice, £2300 twice. This consignment of ten to fifteen month old cattle sold to average £2191.

Messrs Pickles, Far Gearstones, Chapel le Dale sold Limousin cross heifer to £2385 with other Limousin cross heifers selling to £2355, £2335, £2325 and £2300.

The reserve overall champion beast was a 16month old Limousin cross heifer which sold for £2360 from Messrs Hodgson, Green Farm, Shap.

Messrs Bell, Haas Side, Lockerbie sold 17 month old Charolais cross heifer to make £2315.

Messrs Hill, White Wall, Farm sold 11 month old Limousin steer to make £2165.

Trade was described as outstanding with the averages speaking volumes all Limousin steers forward sold to average £2114.50 with a whole sale steer average of £2001.82 which was up £520.28 heifers averaged £1905.78 up £491.92 on the year.
