Borderway Store Cattle Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

On Wednesday the 17th September Harrison and Hetherington held their Annual suckled calf and weekly store cattle sale whereby an entry of 524 were forward.  The pre-sale show was ably judged by local lass, Amy Wilson of Hardrigg Hall, Penrith and kindly sponsored by Dodd & Co, Chartered Accountants and Capontree Veterinary Centre.  Amy awarded her overall Champion to the first placed Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Jarman, Brow Top, Workington.  This 13 month old heifer sold to £3000 to Sean Marsh, Kent. The Reserve overall also came from Messrs Jarman, she was the 2nd prize Limousin heifer and was also 13th month old,  she matched the Champion price of £3000 and sold to Iain Lammie, Longhouse, Ayrshire.  The youngest animal sold was an 8 month old Limousin cross British Blue heifer from Messrs Comrie, Stonebyres, Lanark, she sold to £3000.  The top overall price of the day went to an 18 month old British Blue heifer from Messrs Twentyman, Osborne Farm, Wigton selling to £3900 with Messrs Murray, The Throp, Brampton selling the second best at £3,100 for a 14 month old Limousin cross heifer.

Steers sold to a days top of £2820 for a 14 month old Aberdeen Angus cross.  This was the first prize any other breed animal and was sold by Donald MacPherson, Castle Hills, Berwick.  Charolais to £2520 from Messrs Udale, Sideway Bank, Penrith.  British Blues to £2480 for 23 month old from Messrs Bendle, The Nook, Scaleby and the highest priced junior animal outwith the prize winners from Messrs Harrison, Grange Hall, Appleby with a 14 month old Limousin cross selling to £2380.
