“Ram Bonanza” & “The September Fair” Sheep Sales

THURSDAY, 22nd SEPTEMBER 2024

On Monday 22nd September Harrison and Hetherington held its newly reformed “Ram Bonanza” The sale was a great success with a great atmosphere and overall trade to match. Tups were easily sold especially the biggest types overall clearance was high. Judging our show this morning was Olivia Grindley of Seymour Farms. We thank her for her expertise, picking out a great texel shearling ram from JM & SM Priestley, Cracrop Farms as champion. This tup went on to sell for £1600 to Messers Watson, High Flowery Hirst. Reserve champion went to Messrs Hewson, Burgh Head for the 1st prize Suffolk tup lamb. This lamb sold for £1000 to JR Nixon, Hallees. Thanks also to our sponsor James Delargy Farm Supplies for a special prize of £100 voucher to the champion. Included in the sale  was a special section for Dutch Texel Rams. This was a great success with top price of the day coming from Messrs Pyman, Park View (Thacka Flock) at £2200. This home also had the at £2000, £1400, £1200 (x2) and £1100. Messrs Wigham, Hargill House sold a great pen of Dutch Texel Tups to £1450. The first prize Shearling sold to £1400. Overall this home averaged £1142 for 6.

Suffolks sold to £1100 from Messrs Illingworth, Howgillside. ID & JC Briggs, Hawkstone Farm, Leeds also sold them to £1000. The annual consignment of Texels from Messrs Toppin, Bascodyke were easily sold with this tremendous pen topping at £1400, following on at £1250, £1200 (x4) and £1100. Another well followed consignment was from R & A Harrison, Hazelhead. These topped at £1200, following on at £1100, £1050 and £1000 (x3). Texel tup lambs sold to £1000 from TC Jackson. Messrs Priestley, Cracrop sold cross tups to £1200. Beltex topped at £1250 for a strong tup from T & J Airey, New Grange.

Overall this sale was a great success and more entries will be invited for next year. Our next sale is “The End of Season” Ram Fair along with the BFL second sale on Monday 20th October 2025.

The September Sheep Fair was help on Monday 22nd September was held alongside the Ram Bonanza trade was good with best types easily sold. Trade topped at £340 for a pen of 9 beltex x shearlings from GW Smithson, Guard House. This same home sold 5 rouge to £260 and £238 Brian Ryder, Newton Cottages sold to £238 (x5), £205 (x3) and £202 (x7). Overall average was £170 for a mixed show forward.
