PRIME BULLS: Another huge show of 129 Prime bulls forward and were handled with ease as trade appears to be heading the right way once again.  Top overall was an 893kg Limousin for Messrs Illingworth, Howgillside, Eaglesfield, Lockerbie at £3911.34 to A & D Meats.  Strattens Farms, Berkshire sold next best at £3744 for 936kg, this came for a run of 6 quality bulls to average at £3353.80.  A 973kg Simmental bull sold to £3327.66 from Messrs Lowry, New Steading, Lanark.  Top overall pence per kilo steer went to the top overall priced bull from Messrs Illingworth at 438 followed closely behind at 430 and 428 twice from Strattons Farms

Dairy bulls found a top overall in an 870kg Friesian from Messrs Clark, Whins, Lockerbie achieving £2627.40.  Messrs Grainger, Kiln Close, Wigton sold next best at £2427.84 for 843kg.  The same vendors also sold top Montbeliarde to £2423.16 for 762kgs and top Holstein Friesian came from Messrs Graham, Hillhead, Canonbie at £2189.60 for 680kgs.  Best pence per kilo of 328p went to a 617kg Friesian from Messrs Crozier, Cowlyers, Silloth.

PRIME CATTLE: Good prime steer and heifers is the new normal now in Borderway as another good entry of 72 Prime steers and heifers were forward.  Trade alike the bulls would see another foot in the right direction with a good trade achieved throughout.  Topping the sale overall was an 837kg Limousin cross steer from Messrs Story, Newbiggin Farm, Carlisle at £3247.50.  Messrs Blake, Halfway Well, Penrith sold next best at £3183.20 for 865kgs.   Best Charolais cross came from Messrs Miller, Arkleby Hall, Wigton at £3032.75 for 874kgs and Simmentals crosses to £2907.30 for 881kgs from Messrs Murray, Prior House, Carlisle.  Top price per kilo steers were 398ppk and achieved twice, firstly by Messrs Nicholson, The Lake, for a 711kg Limousin cross and secondly by Messrs Story, Newbiggin with 749kg selling to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.

Heifers sold to £3120.12 for a 729kg Limousin cross from Messrs Hird, West End, Cockermouth and purchased by Steven Wilson, Butcher Shop, Corby Hill and Brampton.  Messrs Story, Newbiggin sold next best at £3005.64 for 759kg to Pioneer Foods, Carlisle.  Top overall pence per kilo of 438p went to a 598kg Limousin cross from Messrs Gass, Nunscleugh, Carlisle equating to £2619.24 and selling to A & D Meats.  Next best was a 690kg Limousin cross from Messrs Hird, West End, achieving 434p selling to Steven Wilson Butcher Shop.
