Borderway Weaned Cattle Sale

On Wednesday, 24th September Harrison & Hetherington held their weekly sale of stirks and young bulls.  Everything through the ring from start to finish was a roaring trade attracting many buyers from all over with the Scottish contingent back in force.

Topping the sale of £2120 was an outstanding Limousin cross from JP Routledge & Son, Netherton.  The same good home sold another Limousin to £1900, a pair at £1880, a pair of Charolais to £1820 and a pair of Limousin heifers to £1730.  T W Bulman & Son, Burn House sold a Simmental bullock to £1810.   J G Johnston, East Foreshields sold a yearling Limousin bullock to £1800.  N & A Bainbridge, Laneside sold a great run of 10-11 month Limousin  heifers topping at £1800 for a pair and averaging £1676 for 6 SR & PA Thompson, Newfield, Sedbergh sold yearling Blonde bullocks to £1760 and a pen of 4 Angus bullocks to £1610.  Ian Cooper, Crailloch sold a pen of 4, 9 month old Charolais bullocks to £1600.  Andrew Tullie Farming, Whitchester sold an Angus heifer to £1700 and a pair of Galloway heifers to £1120.  Yearling shorthorn bullocks sold to £1700 for G Kerr & Son, Greenrigg.  CE & T Smith, Cumrew sold a 11 month old dairy bred, Angus bullock to £1590 and heifers to £1640.  E A Sherwen, Greenmoorside sold yearling dairy bred Angus bullock to £1500.  Yearling Fleckvieh bullocks sold to £1300 from J H Errington, Lowther Low Moor.  The smaller end of stirks today were miles dearer on the week and many more could have been sold with small dairy bred bullocks easily £1100 to £1200 and smaller Dairy bred heifers between £800 to £1000.
