Middleton In Teasdale Annual Sale of Swaledale Lambs 'Queens of the Hill'

On Friday 19^th September, at Middleton In Teasdale Mart, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held a sale ‘fit for Royalty’ as the Queens of the Hills ascended in preparation for the Annual Swaledale ewe lamb sale. A total of 4100 went under the hammer to average a record of £105.96 (+£9.90) with a third of the sale selling for £150 or more. Strong lambs were a dream to sell from the get go, however later born lambs proved more challenging to place.

The pre sale show took place with Judges Shaun Procter and Frankie Brown undertaking and Sam Mitchell acting as Referee. After looking over the pens it was decided that the championship be a awarded to Burncroft Farms which later topped the sale at £340 to John White, Rigg Farm. The Reserve Champion pen from David Allinson, West Brisco sold to £300 to Messrs Mason, Clapham.

Buyers were on the lookout for quality with strong lambs certainly the call of the day. Burncroft Farms sold to average £185.95 and Messrs Allinson, West Brisco selling 291 to average £156.68. The highlight run went to the White Family, Rigg Farm who sold 33 to average an incredible £196.36.

Smaller lambs would meet next years trade with a lack of grass being noticeable in certain areas that effect some runs.
