Borderway Calf Sale

On Wednesday 1^st October Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of calves.  A mixed show of 349 was forward with plainer types in all sections.  These continued to sell at a high rate seen in previous week.   Sale topped at £855 for three Blue bulls from J & DM Graham, Lawshall.  This home also sold Hereford bulls to £750.  D & M Irving, Brunt Hill, Wigton showed the usual quality selling Limousins to £835 and £820.

B & H Johnstone, Nether Auchereoch, Castle Douglas had Blue bulls to £800 with Angus to £780  Limousin to £750 and Herefords to £720.  D & M Wylie, The Gill had an Angus to £770.  HW & J Birkbeck, Castle Hill, Kirkby Stephen sold a 2 month Limousin to £740.  MC & A Elliott, Brackenhow sold a 1 month old Blue to £605.

Heifers topped at £790 from B & H Johnstone, Nether Auchenreoch for a British Blue.  They also had Blues to £700 (x2) and £695.  HW & J Birkbeck, Castle Hill had a tremendous Blue at £770.  AJ & JA McKie, Wedholme, Wigton had a Blue to £740.  D & M Irving, Brunt Hill, Wigton had a pair of Limousin heifers to £730 and a Charolais to £730.  R & J Byers, Whitehills had four Blues at £670.

Black and whites sold to £530 for a Holstein from Nether Pratis Farming, Leven with another at  £455.  Mr H Gardhouse, Cowgate, Wigton sold a pair to £425.  Wilsons of Woodside, Wreay sold a Holstein bull to £410.
